Moorland People
Without people, the natural heritage of our moorlands would be lost...
Moorland people are important in the maintenance of moorlands as open (non-wooded) landscapes.

Without people, the natural heritage of our moorlands would be lost so it is important that we also conserve the cultural heritage of our moorlands – the landowner, gamekeeper and farmer.

> The Moorland Year

All of these people are dependant upon the moor for their livelihoods.

"the grouse and stalking              seasons begin..."

It is important to remember this when walking across moorlands and especially so in the months of April & May, when lambing is taking place and again in the months of August, September and October, when the grouse and stalking seasons begin. Concise information on the dates of moorland activities can be found here.
